Montmartre, a district to visit absolutely

Cobbled streets, a monument on top of a hill, artists, bars, etc. This district is one of the places that must not be missed when visiting Paris. Montmartre was very famous among artists in the 19th and 20th century, and till this day, it remains the artistic centre of Paris, having lost none of its appeal. Starting from the Arvor Hotel, here are our tips to discover the Montmartre neighbourhood:

Visit the “I love you” wall, a monument dedicated to love in the romantic garden of the Jehan Rictus square. It is located at the Place des Abbesses. Afterwards, you can go to square Louise Michel, at the foot of the hill of Montmartre. At the square you, will find yourself presented with the  mythical stairs that lead to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. You have the possibility to climb the stairs, or for the less courageous, to take the funicular. Built less than two centuries ago, the Sacré-Coeur de Paris is a stone testimony to the history of France. It is the second most visited religious monument in Paris, after Notre-Dame.

The Montmartre museum is also a typical Parisian place. Dive into this cultural bubble and discover many artists’ studios. In the past, Montmartre was the home of painters such as Modigliani, Miro, Renoir, or Van Gogh, where they frequently met in the cafés that enrich neighbourhood.

As far as gastronomy is concerned, you are in France, so you will find many restaurants and brasseries to satisfy your taste buds. If you like movies, you should know that Amélie Poulain’s café has not changed, and that you can even go inside to pay a visit!

If you are a fan of original visits, go through the streets of Montmartre on board of the emblematic little train. An unusual, yet relaxed way to cruise the cobblestone streets.
